    ShopBop’s First Official Markdown

Online retailers don’t quite run sale season the same way traditional store calendars negotiate markdowns. Shopbop for example just started its first full markdown on Summer clothing, shoes and accessories. Meanwhile, most retailers won’t start markdowns for at least a few more days.

The discount seems to run from 30% to 40% off retail. Golden Goose sneakers are $371 from $530, an Alice & Olivia cardigan is $245 from $350 and a candy pink sweater from Velvet is $110 from $158. Heading to the designer options, we found a Paco Rabanne mini shoulder bag for $534 from $890, Lizzie Fortunato earrings are $250 from $415, and a Petersyn print button down is $180 from $256.

Of course, there are items even reduced more from prior seasons. A R13 leather pants are $400 from $3300, a Cushnie one shoulder dress is $550 from $1500 and an Adam Lippes blouse is $207 from $690.

If the item you’re watching isn’t included in this markdown it is likely to be added in the next sale drop. Usually, the site adds batches of merchandise every few weeks.

Neiman Marcus Discounts Reach to 85% Off

Over the past few weeks, Bergdorf Goodman has been adding lots of designer merchandise to its clearance category. The discounts top 75% to 80% off and the store will be starting a promotion where sale merchandise is marked an additional 30% off.

Upon browsing, we found an Olivier Theyskens dress already reduced 80% off and with the extra markdown it comes to just $470 from $3360, a Loewe bird print top will be $64 from $400 and a Missoni knit pink dress will be $350 from $2000. The discount among the shoes isn’t quite as high and sizes are scarce but it still makes sense to cherry pick. Chloe classic scalloped low-block heels will be $190 from about $575 and Balenciaga knife shoes with a daisy print will be $332 from $950.

The Bergdorf Goodman promotion is scheduled to start Monday but will likely begin Sunday evening. The promotion will run through Wednesday. If you don’t find anything in the sale section, you can start browsing contemporary designers section, which will go on sale later this week.

    Breaking: Bloomingdales Private Gucci Sale

We just received word that Bloomingdales is hosting a private presale of Gucci shoes. Shoppers will receive $25 off every $100 spent. It’s not a gift card, it’s actually money off your final tab, which we always love. The best part is that the entire Gucci shoe collection included in the promotion.

We’ve been lusting after the Gucci floral print Princetown slides that will come to $640 from $790 after the promotion. We’ve been also deliberating over the Princetown loafer in navy or the Brixton in Bordeaux. More seasonal styles that could be a consideration include the stripped pool slide that’s $235 from $310, espadrille wedge sandals are $465 from $590 and GG Supreme sneakers are $455 from $580. We have some pictures from inside the store right here.

Keep in mind, this is only the presale. The promotion will hit online on April 23. We suggest you head to the store now or add things to your cart and periodically refresh.

    Moda Operandi VIP 30% Off

Moda Operandi just started set off another VIP discount that will save you 30% off a small assortment of new season merchandise.  Click here to see the selection and use the code SPRING30 to engage the discount.

The best part of this sale is that there are a lot of bags. The sale assortment includes a large assortment from Judith Leiber, Dolce & Gabbana, Simon Miller, Danse Lenta and more.

We love this Black Amex “No Limit” clutch from Leiber that comes to $2800 from $4000 and this Russian Doll jeweled bag is $3500.  We also love this cobalt blue Simmon Miller bag that will be $400 from $590 and the Danse Lente Mini Pheoby is $300 from $430. There are also some great shoes and sandals. Malone Souliers flats are $460 from $585 and Bally Mules are $430 from $650.

Take note, many of these items are selling out as we are writing this post. We suggest you hop over asap and not spend too much time stalking.

    Nordstrom: Spring Sale 40% Off

Some New Yorkers are still wearing their Amazon Winter coats but retailers are already trying to get a move on Spring merchandise. Nordstrom just started an early Spring sale where most discounts hover around 50% off.

Some of the sale highlights include this Tibi sleeveless dress for $416 from $695 or this Valentino dress is a higher end option at $960 from $2980. A bi-color Danse Lente bag is reduced by 25% and this pretty pink Max Mara coat is 60% off.

This markdown just started and runs through May 22. The Nordstrom Half-Yearly sale, when all the designer merchandise goes on sale, is usually the last week of May.

    Barneys VIP Pre-Sale; 40% Off

Designer markdowns in April? We wouldn’t believe it unless, of course, we received official notice. Barneys has started the earliest first markdown that we ever remember. The sale is only currently available through this private link.

The discount is up to 40% off and includes lots of designer brands like Balenciaga,  Off-White, Versace, Balmain, Nili Lotan and more. Take note, this isn’t the true first markdown but there is still an interesting selection from which to browse.

It appears as if this early markdown is a way to entice shoppers to buy slower-selling merchandise. For instance here is a classic style Balenciaga BB bag it’s reduced to $1130 from $1890 but it’s highlighter yellow. In the instance of these Giannico velvet mules, we really like the yellow. The price is $570 from $960.

Other, less trendy highlights, include these velvet Golden Goose sneakers that are $565 from $339,  a Jordash denim jacket for $270 from $450, and these Re/Done high-rise loose jeans are $150 from $255. We are also intrigued by this Frame denim blouse and this “City of Angles” cashmere tee.

We realize this isn’t the real first presale or markdown but it’s always exciting to see a sale section. Last Spring, the first markdown presale usually started on May 15. This season, the sale trend is shifting earlier and earlier. We will be sure to keep you posted. You can click over this way to see all the information about presale at Barneys last Spring.

    Bloomingdales Friends and Family Sale

It’s been exactly a year since Bloomingdales combined all of its shoe departments into a virtual shoe farm on the fifth floor of its New York flagship. At first view, the choice seemed to make sense. Convenience and organization but the result appears it could have been a miscalculation.

While the shoe floor is usually bustling, the fourth floor with designer clothing section is a ghost town. During our last visit, there was just one lowly salesperson on the entire fifth floor, which contains more luxury clothing brands.

The contemporary floor isn’t much better. The big difference is that there is an overwhelming selection of clothing packed together. It’s hard not to get anxiety for the mere volume of polyester and denim.

When the shoe departments were spread among apparel, there was a chance for customers to be inspired and explore. As you were walking to see the new Chanel ballet flats, you might happen upon a great dress or a great top. As things stand, clothing is only attended by necessity.

In celebration of the Bloomingdales friends and family sale, we made it a mission to find some positives. The discount is 25% off but most higher end brands are excluded. If you’re interested in an item not included in the discount, you can always engage the loyalist program and receive a $25 gift card for every $100 spent.

Some considerations that are included in the saving portion of the friends and family promotion include these Levi skinny jeans with knee rips that come to $75 from $100 and this Sandro cotton lace dress that’s $333 from $445. (It’s actually really pretty in person and even the cotton is a nice quality.)  The promotion can also be applied to sale items. These high-rise Kopples jeans come to $75 from $250 and Koral leggings come to $69 from $115.

The friends and family promotion runs through Sunday, April 14. We suggest that you shop during this markdown. The next sale with similar discounts won’t be until mid-May.

    ShopBop VIP Sale Link

The hugely popular Shopbop sale event kicked off today for VIPs. Shoppers can use the code EVENT19 and save up to 20% on orders under $500 and 25% on orders above $500. Of course, there are designer exclusions. Shopbop’s list isn’t usually very bad but some of the higher end designers aren’t participating.

The best part of this sale is that you can apply the discount to previously reduced merchandise. For this reason, we always like to start browsing in the sale section. We are really into these linen scalloped slides that are already reduced to $276 from $395. Here is a banana leaf print DVF wrap maxi dress that’s reduced lower than sample sale prices ($178 from $300). These J Brand high-rise wide-legged jeans are exactly what we’ve been waiting to go further on sale ($194 from $278).

Another option is to always use the savings to get a jump ahead of the trends. You can save 25% off most Golden Goose sneakers.  This check pair is already reduced and comes to $350 from $550 after the promotional discount. We love Colovos belted two-tone shirt dress ($675) and we would love to try out this pink MSGM drop waist bow back dress.

Remember, the trendiest of items go fast at this sale. Better to snatch them up now than to wait until the sale ends on Saturday. Get shopping.
