Inside the Manolo Blahnik Sample Sale

The Manolo Blahnik sample sale kicked off this morning without a hitch. Early birds first arrived at the Warwick Hotel starting at 4am. Ticket numbers were handed out at 7:30am, which made many shoppers unhappy because there was no priority given to those who arrived early.

The sale was opened employees, press and at 9:00am and the first group of “public” shoppers was allowed to enter the sale at about 11:00am. Normally, we are not big fans of waiting in lines or waking up with those in a European timezone but this sample sale is always special. (It might even be fun if you plan with a friend.) The best part is that once you get your ticket you can leave and come back.

When we finished shopping, at 11am they were just about to give the first public shoppers entrance. Arriving shoppers were given #50 at that time. We can’t say if there will be any selection by the time the #50s enter because some sizes were running slim even when we first arrived at the sale.

This season’s inventory is really a mixed bag from assorted seasons and years. Prices start at $125 for styles that are plain, suede, leather or satin. Add some ornamentation and you’ll pay $150. Boots cost a bit more but are priced equally as attractive. Shoe booties, styles below the ankle are $200 and those above the ankle are $250. Styles from mid-calf to the knee are priced at $300 and OTKs $400. Prices on boots top out at $500 for OTK styles with fur, lizard, embellished or shearling.

The best selection is for those wearing a size 35 to size 37 and than those wearing shoes larger than a 39.5. The assortment is very small if you don’t fall into those categories. We did notice a few Hagisi styles, which is like spotting a unicorn at a sample sale. This season we found it hard to choose between gorgeous novelty style shoes and everyday basics. (Perhaps we’ve reached our quota for sky-high occasion shoes? Nah!)

Even after with all the crowds, every shopper was admitted by 3:15pm. We are told there was still a tiny bit left over when the sale closed at 4:30. We have a feeling lots of New Yorkers are going to be strutting into Memorial Day with new heels.

Despite  the rock-bottom ticket prices of  $125, we prefer the boutique’s end of season sale. In August, shoppers can score shoes at 75% off and can find a full-size assortment. Did we mention that there is never a wait at the boutique?

Also, most of our local retailers have sales of 40% off and there are lots of Hangisi options. We linked to some above. Feel free to ask questions in the comment section or on Instagram.

    MatchesFashion Delivers Serious Sale

We were very excited to dive into the Net-A-Porter sale but must admit that we were a little disappointed. The discounts at most of our area retailers are better and so is the assortment. Our next online adventure took us to MatchesFashion and we highly suggest you do the same.

The Fendi clothing selection is tops. The discount is 40% off and the selection is amazing. We are in love with this double-breasted wool coat that’s from the Spring collection and is reduced to $2880 from $4800. The sale also includes some Burberry runway pieces, which we haven’t seen reduced anywhere else. The “Tisci” trench is $1554 from $2590 and the new logo pumps are $533 from $790.

Among the bags there also a great selection of Fendi. Here is the Fendi-Fila Kan I and the Mania Mon Tresor for 30% off. There is also a good selection of YSL bags at 30% off. This medium Vicky is $1813 from $2500 and a suede Sulpice is the same price.

Not everything is haute or super expensive. These Alexa Chung sandals are adorable and come to $228 from $380, Vega sneakers are reduced to just $50, and Nicholas Kirkwood leather slides are $225 from $250. It’s also never a bad idea to pick up basic Aquazzura black heels at half-off and these Jimmy Choo booties are lust-worthy but still expensive even at 40% off.

The next markdown should be the second weekend in June. We wouldn’t be surprised if it was moved up because retailers are continually inching forward.

    Net-a-Porter Begins First Markdown

Net-a-Porter started its first markdown this morning. The sale scales up to 50% off and this first markdown has a wide selection of designer brands. To enhance your online sale-ing, be on the lookout for designer items that aren’t distributed through most department stores.

Generally speaking, most popular bags styles are discounted 30% but there are some sale surprises. Here is a Balenciaga quilted BB bag that’s discounted 50% or $690 from $1380. The same bags are only discounted 40% at Saks and Bergdorfs. Some other interesting sale items include this Prada wicker and leather bucket bag that’s also 50% off or $685 from $1370 and this YSL Monogram crossbody is $1603 from nearly $2290.

Among the shoes and clothing, we love this Rosie Assoulin watercolor peplum top that’s 40% off. It pairs perfectly with these Jacquemus totem heels that are 50% off or $325 from $650.  We also think these Cult Gaia shoes are a good bang for your buck at $160 from $320. (They come in a great assortment of colors too.) A bigger splurge might warrant these Amina Muaddi crystal shoes that are $525 from $875.

This Balmain tee is reduced by 40% and won’t last long at $210 from $350 and this Off White tee is $182 from $260. A Burberry bikini is 50% and comes to just $150, Ganni silk printed shorts are $135. We spotted this Valentino leather studded bracelet for half-off or $112 from $225 and these Rebecca de Ravenel geometric earrings for $200.

Take note, we’ve noticed that Net-a-Porter has used the momentum of sale season to mark up some older merchandise. Expect to see more popular styles and brands added in during the second markdown, which will happen June 6.

    Chanel Private Sale Details

Chanel is one of the hardest brands to track during the markdown season. The company is secretive and riddled with rules that are always changing. This season, Chanel is hosting a private sale of past season merchandise with a  discount of 40% on most items.

Technically speaking, Chanel boutiques haven’t had a markdown in over a year. We are told that the new sale philosophy is to only discount merchandise that’s over a year old. That means that most of the sale merchandise, this season, is from the cruise 2018 Greece collection and the Summer 2018 Waterfall collection.

Before you get too excited, there are no bags included int he markdown. Most of the sale selection is comprised of clothing. There is also a bit of jewelry and shoes. We spent the day accumulating pictures and gathering information from various retailers that carry Chanel. You can click here to see what we found. Take note, the shoe list is quite vast but you might have a better chance of catching a unicorn that finding any of the Chanel trainers at your local store.

The Chanel sale officially goes public on May 23. Private clients are invited to shop by appointment on Tuesday and Wednesday. The top floor of the flagship Chanel boutique (on 57th Street) will be roped off for sale. The selection is currently restricted and we couldn’t preview any of the merchandise.

From what we’ve seen, Bergdorfs has the most selection and size assortment and you can see it pretty freely. Bloomingdales has a few rolling racks and six shoe styles. The inventory at Saks is organized, accessible but small. Our favorite pieces are a four-button hot-pink cardigan that comes to $1224 from $2040 and a deep pink wool one-button jacket that’s $2550 from $4250. Click here to see pictures of clothing, jewelry, and shoes that will be part of the sale.

This Chanel sale is going to be very popular and there isn’t a ton of merchandise., If you’re willing to shop for Chanel sales that are a little off the grid you should consider calling Greenwich, CT, Hirshleifer’s on LI and Jeffery’s downtown.

Neiman Marcus Online Early Access and Inside Pics

This is the first sale season Neiman Marcus is open in New York. It’s a little bit out of our neighborhood but we couldn’t help from feeding our curiosity this weekend.

Inside, you will find discounts of 40% off most items. The biggest differentiator is that Saint Laurent bags are reduced 40% off too. (Most stores have only discounted YSL bags 30%.) The Hudson Yards store also has lots of Loewe and Balenciaga discounted 40%. We have pictures of everything right here.

Just in time, the online sale link just went live. (That will save you a $30 Uber from the Upper East Side.) Don’t miss the selection of discounted Gucci bags. A floral crossbody is $770 from $1100, a velvet Marmont is $1130 from nearly $1600, a cosmetic case (or clutch) is $350,  and a leather belt bag is $1050 from $1500.

The sale links for Balenciaga and YSL aren’t live yet but here is Loewe Gate tote that’s now $2100 from nearly $2800 and a Hammock bag is $1870 from $2550. A Bottega Veneta Roma bag is now about $2800 from $3800.

The Neiman Marcus store has erected the ubiquitous shoe sale racks. We were most impressed by the Gucci shoe selection. There were are some classic styles available that we haven’t seen discounted. The pictures from the store are here. The online selection isn’t as good but there is a gold ballerina for $440 from $730 and high top sneakers for $440 from $730.

(TAKE NOTE: Bloomingdales just sent out a link to 50% off Gucci shoes. The selection is much better. Here are fur lined Jordaan loafers for $550 from $1100 and Guccy sneakers for $445 from $890. Click over… there’s a lot.)

The online sale selection also includes a decent selection of Fendi styles but Balenciaga hasn’t made it to the sale section yet. Here are classic black Manolo Hangisi heels for $770 from $1025 and a nude BB for $375 from $665.

We didn’t expect to get this early sale link so early. It seems as if the sale section isn’t fully populated but there is enough there to get a good jump on sale-ing. We just suggest keeping an eye out on refreshments.

Global Fashions Spring Sample Sale Spikey Surprises

Few things are more enjoyable than sunny spring days, chilled glasses of Rosé and afternoons of sample sale shopping. Starting Monday, Global Fashions will open it’s doors to the public and offer incredible deals on an amazing selection of merchandise.

The sale will include a variety of designer labels for men and women from Stuart Weitzman, Anya Hindmarch, lots of Italian designers and more. All bags, shoes and accessories will be discounted 70% off and most clothing will be 80%. For weeks we’ve been anticipating seeing blue skies, sunshine and a peek inside this incrediable sale. Let’s just say, the wait was worthwhile.

The sample sale selection includes a variety of Stuart Weitzman shoes that are all 70% off. We spotted some sandal styles. Peep-toe block heel sandals are $132 from $445, suede low heel nude pumps are $117 from $338 and Gigi suede slides are $180 from nearly $600. We have pictures below.

We know the Stuart Weitzman selection can be distracting but you won’t want to miss the new styles of Anya Hindmarch bags that are also 70% off. A pink crossbody bag with a puffy heart is $270 from almost $900, a shoulder bag with an emoji clasp is $495 from $1645, and a multi-color block Boston style bag is $690 from $2295. Those are really good, but if you look even more closely at the bag selection you will see a studded double handed classic black style tote bag that comes to $900 from $3000 and a color blocked Glamlock bag is about $1122 from $3745.

It just keeps getting better. In the back, you will find shoes assorted by size. We immediately fell in love with the most classic style Rockstud pointed toe pumps. They are available in an assortment of colors and there are plenty of size options. The final price is just $255 from $845. It almost feels like one pair is not enough. Basic black patent pumps with a 4″ heel are $330 from $1095 and sneakers are $210 from nearly $700. (That’s less than a pair of Yeezys.) Click over to the jump to see lots of pictures.

Among the clothing that’s reduced 80% off, we found a Red label dress with embroidery and subtle embellishment that comes to just about $200 from $995. A lace couture dress tallies in at $900 from $4500 and a cashmere and leather trench is $1400 from nearly $7000.

MadSpy’s Official Guide to Online Sales

This week has been very busy. We’ve delivered pictures from inside the presales of Saks, Barneys and Bergdorfs. We also snooped out details from the Christian Louboutin sample sale and announced the upcoming Manolo Blahnik sample sale.

This coming week is going to be almost equally as eventful as presales go official and sales go live online. Lucky for you we have all the dates of when the sales will break along with some online-only retailers like Net-A-Porter.

The Bergdorf Goodman sale is slated to go live first thing Monday morning. If past experience holds true, the VIP sale link will go live this evening. (We will update this post as soon as the link is available. Also keep an eye on Instagram for an early warning.)

Shoppers can expect savings of 40% on most items, including bags and shoes. You can refer to our pior Bergdorf post to see what items were reduced at the store. You can expect that the sale assortment will be nearly identical.

Barneys is slated to headoff against Bergdorfs Monday morning with nearly identical discounts. Look to Barneys for a better assortment of Givenchy and more indi-designers like, Alevi and Samuelle Failli.

The Saks sale is already live but the better brands will go live on Monday and even more on Tuesday. We would keep an eye out on the Gucci selection at Saks. The in-store markdown had the best selection of any store.

Moving forward, the Neiman Marcus sale will go live on Tuesday and face off with the launch of Net-A-Porter‘s first markdown. We expect that most discounted shoes and bags on Net-A-Porter will be reduced 30%. The clothing markdown will be 30% to 40% off.

It’s never to early to begin curating your spring sale selection and editing your shopping cart. Please keep in mind that none of these dates are locked down and can be changed at any moment by store management. We will be sure to keep you updated as links become available. Xx
