At this point it’s probably no surprise that after many years the YSL sample sale is back in New York. But I couldn’t help but wonder why. Once you dig into the numbers, the timing becomes pretty clear. According to Kering’s annual reports, Saint Laurent scaled quickly in 2021, going from about €2.5B to €3.3B in 2022—that’s roughly a 30% jump. Then fashion shifted. Big logos started to feel a little tired, and sales pulled back about 9% in 2024 to around €2.9B, followed by another ~8% drop in 2025 to €2.6B. After years of that kind of growth, you can’t really call it a collapse, but you can see the reset. The brand is recalibrating to live in a luxury environment that feels less loud and more grounded in house tropes than logos.
A sample sale fits neatly into that moment as a way to shift from Kate bags and Lou Lous to sleek elongated clutches and sharper, more directional pieces that rely on shape and attitude rather than logos. You can bet this one is going to be intense—the line sitters are already booked out. If you’re not planning to deal with that level of chaos, there are still a few places I rely on for consistent YSL savings.
I’ve had great luck at Saint Laurent outlets. I usually focus on ready-to-wear and have snagged coats and blazers for under $800 that routinely retail for over $3,500. Pants and blouses are often in the $300 range, and on my last trip I spotted a leather jacket for about $1,500.
