Four Days in Paris: My Favorite Places

I’ve been fortunate enough to go to Paris several times. Most recently, I went over Thanksgiving on a Mother/Daugther trip. After several requests, I put together a list of all my Paris favorites based on four days. I hope you find it helpful.

    Hotels:
Hôtel de Crillon (A Rosewood Hotel) is located on Place de la Concorde. It’s really one of my favorite city hotels. I love that it mixes a modern approach to an old-world vibe. It’s not stuffy, the rooms are a nice size and the staff is very sweet and helpful. Each time I return I feel like I’m staying with family.

Paris Ritz is located in my absolute favorite location in Paris, Place Vendôme. I frequently imagine Coco Chanel staring out the window and seeing the same beautiful setting that exists today. The hotel itself has an older world feel but represents luxury at its highest standard. You also can’t miss the nostalgia of the Bar Hemmingway.

The Peninsula Paris is probably a little more controversial to put in my top three. It’s located right near the Arc de Triomphe, which isn’t really within walking distance from the best shopping and restaurants. When staying there, you take a lot of cabs. I do, however, really love the hotel. It’s fresh and bright. The rooms are large and the bathrooms are spectacular. I think it defines modern French very well.

    Restaurants:
    Dinners
Hôtel Costes: I’ve never met a New Yorker who doesn’t love Hôtel Costes. Reservations aren’t accepted and the staff is notoriously rude. Inside, the restaurant is filled with a heavy cloud of cigarette smoke and cramped seating. The food is delicious and the abuse is somehow delightful. If you want a very interesting experience, show up jet-lagged and hungry for dinner at 1am.

Girafe is known for its gorgeous views of the Eiffel Tower, which is the origin of the restaurant’s name. The interiors are plush and the lighting is perfect. The menu is weighted heavily in fish and seafood. Don’t miss the desserts, which are always my favorite part of the meal at Girafe.

Les Jardins du Presbourg feels like a party invitation. It’s a part club and part restaurant. The vibe is jovial and the food is very good too, which isn’t always the case when DJ’s and restaurants are combined. Expect lots of dancing and singing and don’t be surprised if you find yourself on a table as the hour approaches midnight.

    Lunches:
    L’Avenue
    Laudreee
    Sadelle’s (at KITH)

    Shop:
Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré is located in the 8th arrondissement of Paris and is the local equivalent of Madison Avenue. You’ll find every designer store imaginable including Hermes, Chanel, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Moncler, Goyard, and more. Of all the stores, you’ll find the best deals at Goyard where the price is about 35% less than in the US. It’s not much of a secret anymore. So don’t be surprised if you find a line that spans over an hour to get into the store.

Le Bon Marchè is owned by LVMH and after an $894 million renovation, the store is really a Parisian icon within itself. The space is over 100,000 square feet and beyond shoes, bags, and clothes, it hosts a food market, co-working space, a spa, and a hotel. There are over 600 brands to shop from. Plan to make this stop a full afternoon activity and probably grab lunch at one of the restaurants inside.

KITH is like taking a bite out of the big apple while in Paris. It’s crisp and young and if you are attuned to the streetwear culture, you already speak the language fluently. The space, which is 16,000 sq ft was partially designed by the artist Daniel Arsham, Inside you’ll find KITH retail, KITH treats, and a KITH for Sadelle’s restaurant.

Galeries Lafayette Champs-Élysées is a newly opened satellite location of the famous department store. We love that it’s edited down to a much more manageable size. What’s great is that they hit all the high points and they have everything you need. We love how the space is laid out and lunch at the restaurant, which was designed by Jacquemous, serves a great light fare.

Printemps is where you might end up if you’re trying to get into Goyard without waiting hours. When we went, there was still a line but it was indoors and more manageable. We also loved the department store’s watch and jewelry floor that includes Rolex and Cartier. There is no doubt that Printemps is a luxury department store.

    See: (ie wave hello.)
    Eiffel Tower
    Louvre
    Tuileries (Gardens)
    Arc de Triumph

    Ssense Private YSL Sale

The Ssense Private Sale section is a little tricky. Access is only given to prior Ssense customers and you must be signed into your account to reveal the markdowns. It might also be difficult to access the private sale collection on Instagram or another app. Our suggestion is to shop the sale through a typical browser like Safari, Chrome, or Firefox.

Going through the effort is worth it because the YSL sale selection is enormous. The assortment is even better than the boutique’s private sale. For clarification, the discounts are just 20% to 35% off but most of the items are classic and never seen on sale. The discount is like a little gift with your gift. If you don’t have access, find an ask around. It’s probable that you can find someone to help you out.

    Saks Adds to Designer Markdowns

    YSL Total Private Access

Saint Laurent is the latest big brand to offer customers big savings. Some retailers will sell discounted Saint Laurent merchandise openly but for now, most sales are hidden behind VIP links. We gathered all the YSL deals in one place so that fans can have their fix and easily shop for the best of the best.

    YSL Private Sale link
Ok. Here is the YSL boutique private sale link. The problem is that unless you got an email invitation you won’t see the discounted prices. I suggest you use this as a reference guide when shopping.

    Saks Fifth Avenue
The entire private YSL selection can be found here. To see the discounts, use the code SAKSSALE at checkout. The discounts range from 30% to 40% off and the selection is a little more expansive than some other retailers.

    Neiman Marcus
If you’re looking for the best selection (beyond animal prints) this is where you’re going to want to browse. Prices are up to 40% off. We love all the tweeds and hearts. We know you will too.

    Cettire
The markdowns on some items might not be as high on Cettire but the selection is much fresher. Most of the merchandise is priced off of the euro or pound, so be sure to compare what you buy to US retail. In many cases you’ll find savings of about 30% off.

    Nordstrom:
The selection is discounted 40% and consists of mainly animal print bags and some shoes. There are a few items of clothing worth browsing but, overall, not the most stellar selection.

    Ssense
You are going to need to have an eye like a hawk with a robust working memory of YSL prices to snag these deals. The items aren’t actually marked down or reduced. The retail prices have just been lowered. For instance, this YSL tote is normally $1390 but is silently reduced to $1190. Haute Pursuit is really helpful in situations such as this.

    Chloe Private Sale Access

We’ve talked about how brands are coordinating their markdowns across retailers. Last week, we witnessed Balenciaga taking a bow at markdowns. This week, Chloe is the latest big brand to offer customers big savings. Some retailers sell discounted designer merchandise openly but others have started to hide the deals behind a VIP link. We gathered all the Chloe deals in one place so that fans can have their fix and easily shop for the best of the best.

Mytheresa: The sale is hidden in this private sale link. Discounts range from 20-40% off. The bag selection is better than most retailers. I don’t know anyone who would mind a little “Kiss“. (Here it is in white too.)  The markdowns run through December 1 and then the sale goes public.

    Net-A-P0rter
Discounts range from 30% to 50% off. This silk scarf makes a great gift. These classic sunglasses are 50% off and this sweater has some great detail that makes it more interesting than “just a sweater.”

    Saks Fifth Avenue
The discounts at Saks aren’t the best across the board but you will find the most savings on Chloe shoes and sandals. If you can find your size we suggest you snag them asap. Even if you’re not going on vacation this winter it never hurts to have a great new pair of sandals in your back pocket.

    Ssense
You won’t always find the best prices at Ssense but you will always see items that are different than other retailers. You always have to keep an eye open there. Prices change quickly and sometimes the sale items don’t even come up as a markdown. You’ll just discover that they are a lot less money.

Thanksgiving: Online Sales to Feast On

There’s no better way to digest your turkey than to surf the web shopping. We usually acknowledge Black Friday as most hyped shopping day of the season, but this season seems to be better than most. As retailers have taken to phasing in brands to the discounting season, there seems to always be something good to buy.

Specifically right now, you can find attractive discounts on Balenciaga, The Row, and Burberry. Expect to see a lot more designers added to sale sections starting on December 1. For now, we have our favorite Black Friday sales below are retailers worth keeping an eye on. You can bet that the deals and the selection will continue to increase.

    Net-A-Porter
Historically, NAP started it’s sale on the Thanksgiving afternoon. The big sale started earlier this week but we anticipate that more designer merchandise will be added over the shopping week. Right now, you can save an additional 15% off with the code BLACKFRIDAY, Click here to see all the best that’s on sale at NAP.

    Saks Fifth Avenue
There are so many promotions at Saks Fifth Avenue that it’s starting to feel like Macy’s. It’s confusing but worth sorting out because the deals are actually really good. It’s worth noting that there might <wink> be an additional flash sale savings. It’s worth highlighting that S Max Mara, Carolina Herrera, Balmain, Chloe, Lafayette 148 will be added to the sale selection starting on Saturday. Right now, all beauty is 15% off, which means it’s time to load up on your Baccarat fragrance and La Mer creams. Click here to see all the best Saks deals that are available now.

    Ssense
Can’t exactly put our finger on why but Ssense has disrupted the online shopping ecosystem. Many think it’s the fancy collaborations or editorial style but I just think it’s as simple as listing all the designers in once column that makes the shopping experience different. It’s a throwback to the ease of Craig’s List. There is a reason why some things just work. Ssense sales have a an interesting style with its ‘Private Sale’ exclusiveness. It’s also peculiar how things are added to the sale and so quickly removed. You can click here to see and read more about the Ssense sale.

    Shopbop
When I need more everyday wear I look to Shopbop. Right now you can save an additional 15-30% off with the code HOLIDAY. The extra discount code is valid through Saturday.
