    Net-A-Porter UK Second Markdown

Net-A-Porter hasn’t started it’s end of season sale, just yet, but the UK version of the site just went on second markdown. The current markdown is up to 70% off.

Some brands are clearly not as discounted as they are in the US versions of the site. On the bright side, we are thrilled to shop so many items that were never available here or didn’t go on sale. Before we jump into it, you should take note that it’s really optimistic if you convince yourself the currency exchange is 1:1 but you won’t be so thrilled when you get your credit card statement. The currency exchange today is 1.35 or just calculate about 35% more.

Among the items we haven’t seen  here on markdown is this Prada Ribbon bag and it’s 40% off. We don’t recall ever seeing this style Miu Miu bag and it’s so pretty and also discounted 40%. Check out these gorgeous Balmain fold-over boots or these Roksanda drawstring boots that are both 60% off.

We would also suggest taking advantage of shopping British companies, as there are no import taxes and city sales tax. How about this Anya Hindmarch bag that’s now 50% off or £350 and this NO21 velvet bag is also 50% off and comes to £371? Vegan Stella McCartney sneakers are 60% off or £146.

Some other key standouts are these Isabel Marant silver boots that are just £158 or $213. Over this way is an Off-White jersey top that’s 50% off or £133. We love the fit of these Mira Mikati boyfriend jeans that are discounted 70%. This eye-catching red Givenchy blazer is also 70% off. A Vetements puffer is 50% off and so much cooler than Moncler.

As you’re browsing, be sure to steer away from American mass market brands. It really makes no sense to buy Nike or J. Crew from Europe. Unless, of course, it’s something you missed buying here.

    Inside Barneys at 80% Off

Last week, Barneys started the sale of the season with an extra 20% off promotion that brought the final markdown to about 80% off retail. The sub-arctic weather kept most of our shopping concentrated online but we knew we needed to see the real thing as soon as the atmosphere cooperated.

Like all sale-ling, we started off with handbags, on the main floor. The discount is 60% and, unfortunately, the additional markdown does not apply. Don’t worry, there aren’t many desirable bags remaining anyway. Actually, the online selection is better.

At the store, we found few ivory Saint Laurent Horizon bags reduced to $1489, an Alaia bucket bag is marked to $1670 from $3345 and, yes, that croc Balenciaga City bag is still waiting for a new home. Pictures are in the jump.

The sale shoe selection is running pretty low. There is still a small selection of Chanel and Loubouitin shoes that aren’t posted on the internet. We can’t say any of the styles are great. We have pictures here. We saw plenty of these Manolo heels that are reduced to $260 from near $800. Tabitha Simmons flats are $200 fro $625 and Gianvito Rossi suede boots are about $415 from $1300.

The most interesting sale selection is the clothing. It’s well worth your time to browse and stroll. Specifically, there is a great selection of pants and skirts, which are famously the most difficult fashion items. Saint Laurent cropped pants are $290 from $1190, a drapy version from Osman are $190 from almost $600 and short Balenciaga pants are $200 from $826. A red pleather Jioh skirt is $147 from $560 and a Proenza silver skirt is $320 from $1350.

Among the more impressive fashion items, we found a metallic red and black Balmain dress that’s $900 from $3765. You are sure to stand out in this Dries plush velvet puffer coat that’s now $700 from $2850. A gorgeous red-orange double-faced cashmere duster from Armani is $2000 from $8500.

You can see more pictures from inside our shopping trip over here. We suggest you head over to the store soon if there is something you’re hoping to purchase. Barneys is usually the first store to remove their past season merchandise and the seconds are slipping away.

    January Sample Sales ☃️????❄️Brian Atwood

January isn’t best known for its sample sales. Most retail stores are already hosting discounts that are near rock bottom. Prices better be amazing if sample sale organizers expect shoppers to heat out in the bitter cold. The month usually starts out very, very slow but we expect lots of surprises. Continue to check this space for a list of sales that are worth braving below zero temperatures.

    Jason Wu
This six day sample sale will be huge. We are told to expect true Jason Wu Collection samples of clothing, shoes, and handbags. There will also be a selection from GREY Jason Wu, the designer’s more casual-wear line, and the FILA x Jason Wu collaboration. Expect early shoppers to scoop up the inexpensive samples but those shopping later in the week will be rewarded with additional markdowns.

    Fivestory Offsite
We always love Fivestory because it’s anything but basic. Think Balmain, Cushnie Et Ochs, Mary Katrantzou, and of course, Rosie Assoulin. At the last sale, most items were a straight 85% off retail but some items were just 50% off. You can head this way to see what we found at last year’s sale. We would suggest putting assets aside anticipating this sale. Even at 80% off some of this fa-shun can be ro-ther expensive.

    Hervé Léger
The French fashion house that popularized the bondage dress, Hervé Léger, will be having it’s first sample sale in years. Take note, this isn’t a BCBG sale, it’s Hervé! We are told that discounts will be up to 90% off retail. You can expect to find lots of special pieces from the archives. As style has changed, demand for these sexy little numbers has waned. We expect that there will be a great selection and you can’t go wrong with a great fitting dress. Sexy is always in style.

    Brian Atwood
It’s been a while since Brian Atwood has had a sample sale. Come to think of it, it’s been a while since we’ve seen Brian Atwood shoes all together. It’s nice to know the shoe designer is still kicking-it with those heels. What’s even better, is that you can get insider prices at the two-day sample sale. We are told that $800 shoes will be reduced to $125 and $6000 boots will be just $800. That figures out to about 80% off. Pretty good, huh? Can’t wait to see for ourselves.

    Vacation Edit: Sale-ing into Paradise

The weather in New York is insufferable. To manage with the sub-arctic temperatures we have been playing Havana by Camila Cabello on repeat. The next order of business is to shop for blue skies, warm water and white sand.

    Yes, it’s the vacation edit!

We found that Intermix still has a lot of great items left from last Summer. Here is great a Frame split front denim skirt that’s reduced to $90 from $210, this Jonathan Simkhai bustier is $120 from $300 and a Dodo Bar Or embroidered mini skirt is $150 from $410.

Barneys sale is quite good to begin with but the 20% off promotion brings the discounts on many items to 80%. Here is a Guns ‘n Roses concert tee from Anderson Bell that comes to $23 from $95, this frayed denim dress is about $130 from $550, Mira Mikati hand-painted denim shorts are about $120 from $490.

The problem with shopping last season’s sale items is that sizes are limited. If you aren’t up for the challenge of finding your size, we suggest you scope out Asos. We love the variety of Gingham bikinis that start at just $16. Over this way is an open-back tank with crochet detailing that’s $60. We are absolutely crazy for Cynthia Rowley’s wetsuit that’s $283. Here are wide-leg beach pants for $40, a striped romper is $35 and this bandeau top jumpsuit is $127.

Perhaps a new sun hat can warm that bone-chilling freeze? Revolve has a bunch on sale. Here is a colorful straw hat that’s $99 from $132, a Havana hat is just $58 and the ‘Rebel’ hat from Eugenia Kim is reduced to $187 from $455.

Before heading out to the sun you will need a new pair of sunnies to protect your peepers. These Le Specs are kinda awesome and reduced to $75 from $125, Fendi mirrored cutouts are $256 from $550 and oversized Chloe glasses are $236 from $400. As a matter of fact, Neiman Marcus has an exceptional  assortment of discounted designer glasses.

If you don’t already have a plan to get out of dodge (read: the frozen weather), just remember it won’t last forever. The Hudson River should be ice-free by May. It’s never too early to practice bikini optimism.

Barneys Cyclone Bomb: Extra 20% Off Sale

Luxury retail stores are feeling the pressure to make room for the new cruise collections. In doing so, extra discounts promotions are being used to entice shoppers to ‘buy more stuff.’ Right now, Barneys is offering an extra 20% off already reduced coats, shoes and bags.

Over this way, we found a groovy Saint Laurent lamé mini dress that’s $800 from $2700 after the additional discount the total price is just $640. That’s about 80% off! Amiri red leather pants are $500 from $2050. So tempted!

There aren’t many bags included in the extra 20% off promotion but there are plenty of shoes. Maison Margiela tall fold-over boots come to $550 from $1735, we are crazy for this Alchimia di Ballin low boots that are now $280 from $900. These Prada heart espadrille platforms are perfect for Valentines day and reduced to $399 from $1250. T

he assortment in the store is even larger and the extra discount also applies to Chanel and Louboutin. There was even an ugly Chanel shoe siting where the final price was 80% off retail.

We don’t know how long the markdown will last but we can’t imagine it will be for very long. Barneys usually ships out its winter Merchandise before February. We don’t expect any further discounts. Ladies, it’s now or never.

    Nordstrom: Final Markdown

All those gift items we’ve been eyeing but having purchase are now ripe for picking. Nordstrom just started it’s final markdown. Prices are reduced up to 70% and there are no shortages of items from which to choose.

Over this way, these Vetement yellow socks we have been eyeing are now $47 from $95. We know it’s still an insane amount for socks but it still falls into the category of ‘cheap thrill.’ We picture pairing them with cropped jeans like this straight leg style from Paige that’s now $99 from $200. Then finish the outfit with  these Jimmy Choo lace-ups or Prada Mary Janes that are both 70% off.

Speaking of shoes, we are actually surprised by the amount of footwear that’s reduced 70%. Here are Prada shearling lined boots that come to about $400 from $1400. Fendi sock loafers are $314 from $1050 too. Brocade Manolo Blahnik booties are $316 from $1055 and Calvin Klein 205W39th patent leather booties are $300 from $1000.

Other high-fashion standouts include this oversized puffer from Marques’ Almeida that’s reduced to $630 from $1050. I’m not sure we fully understand the exposed shoulder and safety-pin closer but it looks cool. (That’s all that matters, right?) This Helmust Lang Asymmetric dress looks almost as good but is very much practical and comes to $300 from $500 and this Cushnie et Ochs bustier is gorgeous and is priced at $300 from $1000.

Remember, Nordstrom is great at price matching. If you see something for less money at another store, make the purchase and call for an adjustment. Nordstrom’s great customer service, never fails.

Neiman Marcus/ Bergdrofs Last Call Sale: Third (Final) Markdown

Bergdorf Goodman and the non-Manhattan Neiman Marcus are the latest department stores to take their winter merchandise to the third markdown. The discount at Neiman Marcus is officially up to 70% off and Bergdorf’s is boasting discounts hitting 75% off.

Looking at the sales at both stores toe-to-toe– literally– we found the discounts to be nearly the same. Shoes are 50% off expect when comparing older style merchandise. Prada rubber floral slides are $177 from nearly $400, Balenciaga crystal encrusted satin pumps are $1292 from $2380 and Aquazzura ankle wrap shoes are about $400 from almost $800.

The handbag section is still worth a browse. We are surprised to see so many options still available. Here is a Fendi bag strap that’s now ‘just’ $1400 from $4650 or a more reasonably priced strap is $550 from $1100. (Bags sold separately.) We also found a Balenciaga Blackout City bag in aqua for $1225 from $1445. Our absolute favorite is this Elizabeth and James grummet detailed tote bag that is only $322 from $625.

Among the clothing we found this Delpozo dress, we think it’s from the Summer, but it’s discounted 75% off and comes to $500 from $2050. Adorable cropped Frame jeans are $85 from $245. Over this way is a Dolce & Gabbana leopard print dress that’s $770 from $2200.

We must admit that the selection and sizing are better at Neiman Marcus but it pays to browse both sites. The companies have become very good at avoiding overlap and the assortments are quite different.

These are the final markdowns at both stores but later this month there will be additional discount promotions. You just never know what merchandise will last that long.
