DSW’s Roger Vivier Shoes Are All $250

You’re going to want to read super carefully if you’ve ever hauled yourself to the far West Side for the opportunity to buy discounted Roger Vivier shoes. (Guilty!) You don’t even need the $5 for a Via because DSW has the French luxury designer shoes and they are all priced at $250.

Before we overhype the situation, we admit, the selection isn’t stellar but the markdown is quite remarkable.  Here is are suede knee-high boots for $250 from $1750, a classic pump with a curved heel is $250 from $745 and leopard heeled sandals are also $250 from $925.

If that’s not enough, DSW is also offering a $10 gift card for every $75 you spend. So one pair of those $250 Viviers will earn you $30 for your next shopping trip.

Beyond the Roger Vivier selection the DSW also has a variety of Gucci, Sergio Rossi and Opening Ceremony discounted to $99. DSW is one of those discount stores we often forget to check. This is a good reminder.

Trends: Spring is Coming Up Daisies

Okay. We admit it. We have Spring fever. And yes, it’s contagious.

It’s only March 1 but everywhere we look we see daisies. Florals are always a big trend for Spring but, this year, designers were clearly smitten by the simplicity of the slender daisy. It makes sense, after all, last Spring was tulip-mania and the prior year we saw an abundance of cherry blooms.

Nordstrom— in particular– has a fantastic array of designer items showcasing this floral trend. Some of our favorite items include Daisy pumps from Charlotte Olympia, Kate Spade’s daisy wedges and  Prada’s daisy slides, which are likely to be come the most iconic shoe of the season.

Daisies aren’t only for the feet– obviously. Over here is a beautifully understated top from Valentino with embroidered daisies, Victoria Beckham’s daisy print stretch dress (almost sold out) or a more understated Alice & Olivia daisy lace cocktail dress.

Daisy mania even extends to these Sam Edelman sunglasses or a daisy print neck-tie for your bae. We haven’t even started on daisy dukes– but we might want to save those for Summer.

It’s really special to be able to find all these amazing designer daisy items all at Nordstrom. As always, online shoppers should take advantage of Nordstrom’s great customer service, which features free shipping and free returns. If only all stores were as easy to shop.

    Chanel Launches New Handbag

It’s been more than six years since Chanel launched the Boy Bag in 2011. Since it’s debut, the Boy has been one of the hottest bags in the world. Maison Chanel is hoping to have the same impact when the company launches the Gabrielle bag this coming month.

Named for the French brand’s founder, Gabrielle Bonheur “Coco” Chanel, the Gabrielle is expected to become a pillar of the Chanel brand. The bag launch will coincide with the rollout of a new fragrance, jewelry and a very large media campaign depicting the designer as a young and rebellious girl, according to WWD. (Perhaps that was the pre-WWII years?)

The new handbag style was inspired by virtual reality goggles and upending the shape, according to Karl Lagerfeld. The Gabrielle has a flat-bottom and is shown in styles raging from a backpack, synch bag and a tote. There are also a bunch of colors and materials from which to choose. Prices range from $3,000 for a classic black lambskin up to $33,000 for a large alligator version. (You can see more pictures of the new bag style here.)

It’s hard to make a full assessment of the Gabrielle without seeing and holding it but the style seems familiar. The new style draws design similarities to the Cambon bucket bag, the now, discontinued Shopping Tote, a backpack and a vintage quilted tote.

We would love to hear your thoughts on the Gabrielle. Is this a new ‘must have’ or a fruitless attempt to avoid luxury stagnation?

Save Up to 25% on Shopbop

For a long time, department stores have been luring shoppers with gift card shopping incentives. We’d prefer a straight discount over a gift card any day. It’s always more attractive to save money now than offered the promise of a gift card that either expires.

Good thinking: Shopbop is offering a shopping discount incentive that increases with the more you spend. The best part is that we just got early access. You can start shopping now and use the code GOBIG17 at checkout. Look for the items indicated ‘Select Style’. There are several more brand hold-outs than usual but the savings levels are better.

We wouldn’t mind using the discount on these Ferragamo Vara flats, which are a trending item for summer but not yet on sale anywhere. Discounted Prada sunglasses are also not a bad bet at this time of year. If you haven’t yet jumped on the bomber or varsity jacket trend you can start with this version from Kenzo our our favorite from Opening Ceremony. A Mira Mikati sweater is making us lust for permanent warmer weather.

    15% off orders of $200+
    20% off orders of $500+
    25% off orders of $800+

You can also use the discount on sale items. This Derek Lam will come to just $600 from almost $3000, this denim jumpsuit comes to $350 from $1500 and this Suno blouse is $100 from $400. That’s about 75% off! (That’s where our mental math skills end.)

Beauty Update: Armani, Pat McGrath & Marc Jacobs

I absolutely love beauty products and test new items all the time.  You don’t get to hear about most of them because I won’t make any recommendation unless I buy and replenish a product the product. That’s when you know a beauty product is really good.

For the past several months I have been using lots of new items but there are three in particular that I absolutely love:

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation ($62)
There is a reason why this foundation has won just about every award in the beauty industry. With just one pump, it delivers a radiant and silky finish. To start, the pigmentation is like no-other. The color we chose has a lovely rose tone and looks completely natural. The coverage is light but lasts all day. This product isn’t oily and the finish causes the skin to glow.

Bottom line, Armani foundation is head over heels better than the Saint Laurent Touche Éclat. Get it. Try it. Let me know if you love it as much as I do.

Marc Jacobs Ultra Skinny Blacquer Gel Eye Crayon ($24)
There are few things I hate more than sharpening an eye pencil. The liner always breaks and the shavings get all over. This Marc Jacobs liner is so skinny that it never needs to be sharpened and is replenished with a twist and a click.

In addition to the convenient packaging, the gel-like liner applies easily and, yes, stays on all day. Everyone I have recommended it to has thanked me. I hope you will too.

Pat McGrath Metalmorphosis 005 Kit ($60)
It’s hard to scroll through Instagram and miss Pat McGrath’s limited edition products. The pictures are mesmerizing but the speed at which the items sell out is equally as remarkable. Somehow we were able to snag an eye kit at the Union Square Sephora. The kit contains pigment, eye-cream, a black dual-ended marker and Mehron mixing liquid.

Before I get ahead of myself, I should make it clear that I purchased this as a novelty item. I never anticipated that I would be able to integrate bronze shadow and eye liners into my normal rotation. Granted, Metalmorphais is not part of my daily routine but I do find myself reaching for the glitter and gold when I want to add pizzazz for a special event. Its really a wonder how a little bit of blended gold can transform an eye.

I’m still experimenting a bit with this one but I don’t regret buying it for even a moment.

Private Designer Handbag Sale: Chanel, Hermes & Vuitton

Nobody plans to become a collector of great fashion–it just happens. Before you know it, your closets are overstuffed. That’s when you need to start making tough choices. You can either stop buying or begin to ‘recycle’.

Hanna Kim, the founder of A Modern Take, began accumulating so many bags that she made a rule that she needed to sell a bag in order to buy a new one. If Hanna sets her eyes on the newest style Chanel, Vuitton or Hermes, she says good-bye to an existing member of her expansive collection. This tactic has turned into a full fledged business and others have followed suit and asked her to sell their bags too.

“As a vintage Chanel collector, I found the experience of buying preowned designer bags from online shops and consignment shops to be very different from buying new bags at boutiques,” Hanna says. “It did not feel as special as buying a bag at a place like a Chanel boutique. I wanted to create a more personal and luxurious experience that would match the high end bags that I am selling.”

Once or twice a year, Hanna holds a private Chanel and Vintage Designer bag sale. This year, the sale again will take place at the Bowery Hotel on Friday, February 24th. The sale is by appointment only.

Shoppers can expect to find lots of vintage Chanel with a focus on classic flap bags. Aside from Chanel, there are also bags from Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta, Celine, Chloe, Gucci, Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs and Saint Laurent. We are also told that there will be a small assortment of wallets.

To request an invite, email A Modern Take with your preferred shopping time. They will reply with a confirmation. Everything at the sale is fully authenticated and in excellent condition. You can check out A Modern Take’s Instagram to get a sneak peek of what can be found at the sale.

What You’ll Find at the Gucci Outlet in Secaucus

Alessandro Michele has taken Gucci from nearly extinct to an Italian stallion. Right now, Gucci is the queen bee, spectacular serpent and king of the luxury fashion jungle.

As with any top banana, or in this case, a crowned pineapple, Alessandro Michele didn’t want his highly prized collections discounted. This past season, sale season was limited to select group of top Gucci clients. If you weren’t on the list you couldn’t access the sale merchandise online or in boutiques.

Gucci’s warehouse in Secucus, NJ has traditionally been the home to the under-the-radar Gucci Outlet. It had been years since we have taken the outlet trip through the tunnel but the seductiveness of this pas sale season piqued our curiosity, which resulted in a recent road trip.

Over the holiday weekend, the outlet store was not very crowded, which was a good thing. Upon entering, we went straight to the back to browse the selection of shoes for both men and women, Unfortunately, there were no iconic styles available. As a matter of fact, the selection looked more like the discount assortment found DSW than a Gucci boutique.

Among the most reduced merchandise was a table of boots, shoes and sandals that were an additional 50% off or a total of 80% off retail. We found several horsebit style high boots that were priced at about $600. A version in python was $800 from $3500 and pointed-toe booties were $450.

Other outlet shoes were discounted just 50% off retail. The selection includes, various styles with the the Shanghi Blooms print from Cruise ’16 and toile print espadrilles. There were also a variety of shoes with an oversized horsebit and metallic sandals with a heavy stacked heel. Click here to see pictures of the shoes at the Gucci outlet.

The clothing assortment was much better but the discount is the same 50% off as the shoes. We found  a pink coat with green fur cuffs that is priced at $2850 from $5700 and a pink tweed and mink jacket is $2500 from about $5000. Both are from the 2016 cruise collection. There are also items from fall 2015 but the discount is still just 50%. You can click here to see pictures of some of the best clothing items at the outlet.

Now, to the unfortunate story of bags. The discount is less than than the first markdown at most stores and the selection isn’t very good. There are blossoms, double-Gs and Arabesque style bags. There are also some older styles that are classic to the Gucci brand but still not very desirable. Here are pics.

We can’t say that the shopping trip was very fruitful. As a matter of fact, we didn’t leave the store with any shopping bags. On the bright side, the Gucci warehouse outlet is still alive and kicking. We might try again in a few seasons when Gucci mania dies down and the warehouse begins to fill with past season merchandise.
