To much surprise, the Diptyque sample sale started this morning. Early shoppers report that there were no lines and most items are discounted 50% off. Large candles and room sprays are $35 and smaller sizes are $20. Perfumes and beauty items are most plentiful. Shower gels, for example, are $22 from $44.
The sale is taking place at Century 21’s sample sale space. Among the scents you can find Myrrh, Cyprès, Galliano, Thé, Feu de Bois, Pin Sylvestre, Ambre, Patchouli, Santali and Oranger.
Those who hold out for the last day of the sale might be rewarded with a 2-for-$30 markdown. The you can only imagine that the snow will assure that the crowds are thin tomorrow.

Good jeans are invaluable. The funny thing is that good jeans never seem to stay good for more than a year. The speed at which denim trends change is incredible and keeping up can be daunting.
We would never endorse buying jeans at full price but have come to accept that anything under $200 is a good price — especially if you will wear them several times a week. The transitional season is a good time to start shopping for the denim styles you want while your size is still in stock. We suggest adding your favorite style to the cart and waiting for a good friends & family sale. Bloomingdales’ friends & family sale is usually at the end of March and ShopBop runs a big site-wide discount promotion in early April.
Patchwork Blue
One of the biggest trends for Spring is the multi-tonal jean. A patchwork of different color blues making a big splash. Since they aren’t ripped, the look isn’t as messy as many distressed denim styles but the look is still very casual and relaxed. Some of our favorite styles are below.
Wide-leg Crop
The flared cropped jean isn’t all new but this season that flare is growing to a wide-leg. We especially like the versions with a wide dark hem. This style jean looks best with a stylish shoe (like a Gucci slide) or a pointed boot that clear the hem. Check out these styles:
Colored Jeans
It seems like colored denim goes from being hot one season to cheesy the next. This season–you got it– it’s hot. Blush in particular happens to be the color de jour.
Super bleached
Acid wash will always be a nostalgic look from the 80s and 90s but super bleached is just about as classic. Why not pull out a vintage heavy metal tee and a just-don’t-care attitude? We just suggest staying away from the acid washed blond hair. That’s a look we don’t need to resurrect.
The fashion industry has suddenly put a lot of emphasis is put on travel outfits. We believe that traveling with the right luggage is a lot more important than choosing the right fedora.
Tumi’s new 19-Degree collection is truly a showstopper. 19 Degree is Tumi’s first aluminum offering and is clearly designed to go head-to-head with Ramowa. The distinctive contoured lines, highlight the profile of the suitcase and give it sense of fluidity. The final look is fashion, art and design. It is a sure upgrade to most anything else on the market.
The best part is that everything Tumi is 20% off at Saks Fifth Avenue. Color options include silver, black, matte black, copper and Glacier, which is a steele blue. Normally the bags range in price from $600 for a carry-on to $1395 for an extended-trip size in aluminum. The discount brings the prices to $475 for the carry-on to $1116 for the biggest size in aluminum. Take note, that the aluminum is priced almost twice as high as the polycarbonate.
Like most women, we aren’t light packets and suggest getting the ‘Extended Packing Trip‘ and a ‘Short Packing Trip‘ size. This combination gives you lots of options– you can take both bags or only one. On bigger trips we suggest taking both to make sure your big bag doesn’t go over weight. It’s always nice to have a second back to redistribute your belongings.
Barneys isn’t usually the first thought that comes to mind when talking about beauty retailers. This week, however, the store kicked off their gift bag beauty incentive and it’s really the best ever. Through Sunday, beauty shoppers that spend $200 or more can take nome a 22-piece set of samples and various treats.
Elegable purchases include anything associated with beauty, grooming or fragrance. (No, shoes don’t count– even though they do make you look beautiful.) The best part is that men and woman can choose their respective gift bags. Online shoppers don’t need a code, a pop-up will automatically engage at checkout.
Twice a year, The Outnet cleans out it’s designer closet with blowout prices. Surprise! The sale started today and there are so many amazing deals at 85% off that we don’t know what to choose.
There are so many shoes that it’s best just to sort by your size. If you’re a size 9 go for these Lanvin suede boots for $270 from $1350, berry Casadi suede pumps for $123 or Prada flats for $385. Need sneakers? These Nike’s are $23 from $130. We also noticed a large assortment of Christian Louboutin shoes that aren’t in the clearance sale but they are reduced 40% to 50% off.
We’ve always been very impressed by the quality and styling of The Outnet’s in-house label, Iris & Ink. The sale makes these classic wardrobe basics nearly irresistible. Take these high-rise denim jeans that are now priced at $62 from $155. The original price was reasonable enough but stylish jeans for $63 is remarkable. Here is a cashmere sweater for $82. (We have one already and love it.) This muted pink gilet for $180 can be great for Spring. Black ankle boots for $122 or suede over-the-knee boots for $160 are a no-brainer…you get the point.
This is one of those sales that serves as proof that it doesn’t necessarily need to cost a fortune to look fantastically chic. We suggest you hurry and shop. As we are writing the post, the site was getting increasingly slow, which means it’s inundated with shoppers.
Neiman Marcus started an online promotion where many sale items are reduced an extra 20% off. The big treat is that the online clearance section is filled with great designer items that could be perfect for Spring.
The promotion started today and only runs through Thursday. Neiman Marcus doesn’t do these extra 20% off sales too often. We suggest you take advantage while the opportunity presents itself. It’s quite the treat to shop for the upcoming season from a selection discounted merchandise that’s this good.
Wolford’s hosiery and tights are lauded for their fine fit and modern designs. The quality is known for being outstanding and the styling is always at the forefront of fashion. At the same time, they are often four times the price of most hosiery brands.
Today, the Wolford sample sale opened its doors at the 260 Sample Sale space was buzzing with excitement as women of all ages and sizes sifted through neatly arranged bins of leg wear. Prices start at $18 tights and stockings with retail values under $100. More expensive tights are $45. Are the stockings and ‘stay ups’ that are $15. (Good luck trying to stay up. We’ve never had luck with any brand.) Styles range from sheer stockings to the most current trend of oversized fishnets. Beyond the leg wear, the sale includes a variety of undergarments, bras, panties, shareware and lingerie. There is also many racks of ready-to-wear clothing and accessories. The shapewear skirts and tops are $55, bodies are $75 and dresses are $95. Ready-to-wear is a straight 75% off retail.
We are huge believers of stocking up on, well, stockings when a discount opportunity presents itself. At $18 a pair, however, we didn’t feel very inclined to completely restock our dwindling tights and stocking inventory. You can regularly find similar pricing on luxury leg wear at discount stores like Century 21, TJ Max or Off Fifth. At 75% off the ready-to-wear is also not very attractive and the merchandise found in a boutique’s bin and priced at $5 an item.
By no means are we saying that there aren’t a lot of great pieces to pick up. We just think the pricing is a tad too high for a big stock up . Stay tuned for markdowns. We’ll be sure to update the main sample sale page as discounts occur.
