New Year’s Sale: Neiman Marcus & Saks

As we count down the final hours of 2016, I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to the Madison Avenue Spy family. Our goal has always been to publish luxury sale information that can’t be found anywhere else on the Internet. With your support and help, I think we have succeeded in adding transparency to pre-sales and VIP shopping promotions.

I hope you continue to be amused and informed. Wishing you all a joyous, prosperous, healthy and happy New Year. Without further delay, we bring you the final sales of 2016.

    Neiman Marcus Extra 33% Off
You can save an extra 33% on already reduced items. On some items additional discount brings the final markdown to about 70% off. Among the items eligible for the extra markdown, is a Saint Laurent croc embossed Sac De Jour $1500 from $3000, a Valentino reversible tote is $1100 from $2200 and a Dolce & Gabbana tulip print sleeveless sweater is $400 from about $1200. These Saint Laurent studded rain boots are a steal for $200 from $800, those Valentino ballet flats with chains and an ankle strap are $356 from $800 and embroidered thigh-high Laurence Decade boots are show-stoppers and priced $560 from $1200. We know there will also be a third markdown after New Years but, as you can see, inventory is low on some of the more desirable fashions.

    Barneys Third Markdown
Discounts are now up to 75% off at Barneys. It’s not surprising to anyone that the best deals are among the clothing. A lace Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini dress is just $370 from $1500, a Sacai gray and ivory sweater is only $200 from $800 and a Haider Ackermann military satin blouse is $319 from $1300. The additional discounts haven’t been applied to bags and shoes but we will investigate further following the New Year.

    Moda Operandi Discounts 75%
Discounts have hit 75% off but inventory and sizing is running thin. The site is particularly well stocked with exquisite gowns and dresses. Check out this Delpozo gown that’s priced at $2600 from $8500. This sunny yellow Rosie Assouline skirt is genius as you can remove tiers and make it the desired length– from mini to ball. There are also lots of less expensive items like these Frame jeans that are $76 from $230, a Jonathan Simkhai
    Bonded
“>Jonathan Simkhai pencil skirt is $159 from $460 and crushed velvet booties from Carmelinas are $190 from $300.

    Disecting Nordstrom’s Half-Yearly Sale

The Nordstrom Half-Yearly sale is back. This is Nordstrom’s biggest sale of the year. The discount is 50% to 60% off most all fall and winter merchandise. Take note, the sale only runs through January 2nd.

Some items may not be discounted as much as other department stores but some brands are reduced even more. Nordstrom is also notorious for price matching. If you see an item priced less at another store make sure to contact customer service and Nordstrom will match the price in most situations.

This season we found several items marked down further than in most other stores. A tweed Loewe bag is an unprecedented 60% off. (Not the hottest style but we haven’t seen any on sale.) Dolce & Gabbana is discounted just 40% at most retailers but this super chic pant suit and this tulip a-line dress is 60% off or $900 from $2275.

The SPACE sale section (a collection of avant-garde designers) might even be better than Barneys. A Phelan pleated knit dress is $1000 from $2600 and this Stella McCartney embellished jacquard shift dress is $1400 from $3400. We wish she did more versions of these shift dresses because the fit is amazing and the styling is classic. We also absolutely love this Simone Rocha long coat that looks both warm and stylish and is reduced to $1100 from $2700. We are finding it hard to resist this black and pink faux fur coat from Shrimps that’s reduced to $450 from $1120.

Most of the best bags and shoes seem to be already gone. There is only one size option for this pair of Proenza boots and these Marni pumps. That’s what happens when great style shoes get discounted to 60% off.

We suggest you snag what you like now because Nordstrom’s online discounts don’t usually dip below 60%. If you’re shopping in the stores– that’s another story.

Finding Designer Discounts of 70% or More

Sale shoppers love this time of year. The discounts are plentiful and so are the options. The slyest sale shoppers are reaching beyond the common 60% off and searching for top designer merchandise that’s been reduced 70% or more.

Those looking to spend less than 30-cents-on-the-dollar have come to the right place. We scoured the Internet and have curated a selection of the best designer deals. Scroll through, we’re sure you’ll be impressed with out ability to sniff out a plentiful assortment of Jason Wu that’s marked down 75%. If you haven’t yet dipped your toe into an Aquazurra lace-up, now would be the time. On Net-A-Poter there are more than 60 options, many of which are 70% off and are priced at about $200.

The Row’s shoe line might not have been as a big of a success as everyone anticipated. These calf hair boots and these bordeaux loafers are both discounted by two-thirds. This Sonia Rykiel print ruffle dress ($275 from $920)is perfect to take on your New Years tropical vacation and you can sashay while the ball drops wearing this Roksanda tiered taffeta maxi skirt ($450 from $1500). With discounts like these you can afford to take fashion risks.

    Neiman Marcus: Spend and Save

Amidst all the heavy markdowns, Neiman Marcus is offering customers a great reason to shop the new collections. Neiman Marcus is offering a promotion where you can save immediately on the purchases you’re already making. You can save $50 off your purchase of $200 or $100 off a $400 purchase. The promotion is only online and you can use the code DECSAVE at checkout to engage the savings.

There are many designer exclusions but we found a lot of great items where you can save big. We are so exited to receive these Illesteva mired cat eye-glasses before heading out for our New Years vacation. Speaking of New Years, this Elizabeth and James sequined v-neck shift dress will work perfectly regardless of where you make your midnight toast.

There is no better reason to forgo the black-tie party and enjoy the fireworks while taking a jog though Central Park. You won’t miss out on any of the glitter and festivity with these New Balance black and gold glitter sneakers.

It so much fun to shop at Neiman Marcus where you can save even when items are not on sale? Don’t hesitate, the promotion only runs through December 27.

ShopBop Discounts 25% Off Sale (Again)

For the second time this month, Shopbop is offering shoppers an extra 25% off sale merchandise. Use the code TREATYOURSELF when checking out to engage the additional discount.

The Aquazzura shoe selection is exceptionally good with an initial discount of 60%. These suede booties and lace-up open, toe booties are both about 75% off after using the promotion code. If you’ve got a body you should absolutely rock this Muglar dress for New Years ($1800 from $6000). After all, you’ve invested enough at the gym.

Perhaps this Mira Mikati handprinted denim jacket is more wearable and a safer purchase at about $400 from $1335. If you haven’t added embroidered jeans to your wardrobe this year, it’s not too late. We love these 3×1 wide-leg version that are $180 from $625.

The promotion runs through Wednesday. Just like 2016, it’s all over at the strike of midnight. That’s midnight Pacific Time, which gives us East Coasters a few extra hours to shop for the perfect New Years ensemble.

The Five Best Places to Shop After Christmas

Black Friday is for the amateurs. Real shoppers sharpen elbows for the day after Christmas. It’s the time of year where you can still find a rather good selection of merchandise that’s highly discounted. Over the course of the week you’ll also find great opportunities to pounce on hard-to-find items that may get returned.

Below are some of our favorite post-Christmas shopping destinations. Share your favorites in the comment section below:

    1. Saks Fifth Avenue
Saks is enticing shoppers with discounts for a total savings of up to 70% off. We suggest you get there when the store opens because when the clock strikes noon the additional savings end. Online shoppers can begin shopping the extra discounts from now through midnight Monday.  Givenchy high Shark Lock boots in nude are reduced to $526 from $1200, Balmain ankle-high boots with a chain are $760 from $1800 and Giuseppe Zanetti studded booties are $540 from $1300.

    2. Barneys New York
Barneys still has better markdown opportunities than their competitors. Shortly, the store will begin to lose its competitive edge as other stores reduce accessories and shoes past 60%. The biggest Barneys advantage is their fashion lusty inventory. As an added incentive, our New York favorite is offering an additional 10% off sale prices, which brings the final discount to about 65% off.  A Saint Laurent ruffled and tulle dress is $890 from $2500, a blazer from The Row comes to $1500 from $4100, Acne ankle boots are just $290 from $800 and a Frame jeans are $80 from $230.

    3. Net-a-Porter
Luxury e-tailer, Net-a-Porter, already started their second markdown and some items are reduced up to 70% off. Post Christmas, you will notice that a lot more merchandise  reduced to that 70% off mark. Michael Kors ‘candies’ are  $128 from $425, Tabitha Simmons suede high heel loafers are $218 from $725 and a lace-up Balmain dress is $1000 from $3500.

    5. Manolo Blahnik
Manolo Blahnik usually starts their first markdown immediately after New Years. The discount is normally 33% off but if you can wait three weeks, prices get slashed to 50%. Then, right when you think your winter blues can’t get any worse, Manolo starts their February clearance sale where shoes are discounted up to 75% off.

    5. Ralph Lauren
When Ralph Lauren slashes over 70% off we’ve been known to raid the Rhinelander Mansion for cashmere sweaters for loved ones and ourselves. The best part is that most of the leftover men’s stock is a size XS, which is just perfect for you. Just be careful, prices in the store don’t always match up online. So you might be better off just staying at home and shopping online.  Right now, online shoppers can save an additional 30% off already reduced merchandise.

Saks Takes Shoes to 50% Off

Saks Fifth Avenue, finally, started a markdown on shoes that we can shop on. The standing discount was 40% but many styles are now an additional 20% off. The total savings is now about 50% on many brands.

Taking a closer look we found classic Jimmy Choo knee-high boots that are now $600 from $1250, Giuseppe Zanetti crystal-studded jagged mule pumps are $600 from $1850 and Provenza Schouler studded calf-high boots are $588 from $1050. The additional markdown does not apply to Valentino, Givenchy, Prada or Manolo.

The fine print says that prices will return to the 40% discount at the conclusion of business on December 24. We all know once stores open after Christmas, the discount may even be less. Just watch out for items with low stock.
