    The IT-it: Going For Gold

One could rationalize that getting dressed during the holidays is just like any other time of year. The only problem is that the generalization is very wrong. Besides the cooler temperatures (in many places), getting dressed during the holiday season always calls for more glitter and sparkle.

Over the span of late-November to early-January, you can get away with almost anything that has glimmer and shine. Hey, is there really anything wrong with stringing yourself with holiday lights? Well, yes. LED is just a little bit over the top but there is nothing wrong with reaching for gold.

Ever since the Met Ball, this past Spring, we have noticed how ‘Oscar’ gold has become a winning color. When paired with muted tones like army green or khaki, gold offers a relaxed brilliance. Have you noticed how nicely gold jumps off the red carpet. No further commentary necessary!

Below are some of our favorite ways to wear gold this upcoming holiday season:

Equipment black & gold top ($228)
    Herve Leger gown ($2390)
    Alice & Olivia minidress ($1200)
    Jenny Packham gown ($5275)
    Gold Converse Chuck Taylor ($95)
Loren Steward 14k gold safety pin earrings ($275)
Stella McCartney gold knit turtleneck ($820)
Prabal Gurung gold sequined tee ($1095)

    Andrew Marc Sample Sale

With temperatures as warm as they have been it’s hard to believe it’s November. Intellectually, we all know that this temporary warm spell won’t last. Before you know it, Thanksgiving Day floats will sweep their way up the Upper West Side and temperatures will slide South.

Now is the perfect time to prepare for the inevitable. This week, Andrew Marc is hosting its annual sample sale. The sale features deep discounts on men’s, women’s and girl’s, leather, fur, wool,
down and rain outerwear and apparel. (Girl’s sizes range from 7/8 to 16.)

The sale started Saturday and features savings up to 80% off retail prices. We spotted an Andrew Marc Italian wool coat with removable rabbit fur vest for $299 from $1,195, an asymmetrical leather moto crop
jacket with diamond quilted sleeves is $349 from $995, a down jacket with detachable coyote fur trimmed hood is $199 from $410, and a wide selection of dresses are priced at $39 from up to $288.

The sale runs through Sunday but we suggest attending soon. Like the Thanksgiving parade, this annual sample sale is a tradition in New York and the best merchandise tends to go quickly.

    Christian Louboutin Coming Soon

Update: We are told that the sample sale is not this week. Dates have not been confirmed but we anticipate sometime in December. We apologize for any inconvenience.

When is Monday not a bummer? When you have an invite to the Christian Louboutin sample sale!! That’s right, the sale that everyone loves to hate starts this week. The security is tight and there’s a clear mean-girls hierarchy to who gets invited to shop first.

The most important Louboutin insiders, glossy magazine editors and celebrities, are known to be invited to begin shopping on the first day. The sale extends all week as the invited guest list expands to allow general press and “friends and family.”

Most shoe styles range in price from $300 to $500. There is always a very limited assortment of men’s sneakers and shoes, which range $300 to $400 depending on the detail. During the last sale our VIP snoops reported that most shoppers were buying in bulk — meaning that most shoppers ended up with at least ten pairs of shoes each. You can click here to see the inside scoop from last year’s sample sale.

If you’re considering door-busting this sale, we suggest that you use your best technique starting Wednesday. Be forewarned, at the last sale, there were several layers of security and we received many reports of people getting turned away after waiting on line for a ridiculous amount of time.

Follow along on Instagram and Twitter to get up-to-the minute updates.
