    T'is the Season of Pre-Sales

While most Americans are planning their Thanksgiving meals, we are stalking our favorite boutiques for the first opportunities to shop markdowns. We uncovered some early hits of sale season. We will continue to update the site as we uncover more sale intel.

Be sure to follow along on Instagramand Twitterfor pictures and real-time updates. We have pics and info from the Carlotte Olympia sample sale. A full post is coming soon.

    Bottega Veneta
This year the Italian lifestyle brand officially started their sale a bit earlier than usual. Right now, you can save 30% off on handbags and 50% off on most other items in the boutique. Bottega’s colors this season were really beautiful, which makes this a great opportunity to grab a classic style bag in a fabulous color. Included in the markdown is the large hobo in pink, wine and tourmaline. While in the boutique, we also spotted this Karung & Ayers Snakeskin bag and Double Handle Leather Totes in lots of pretty pastel colors. The discount isn’t yet available online but bags are never discounted on the website.

    Prada
Pre-sale will begin on Friday. The discounts will range from 40% to 50% off but the final determination on discounts has not been made. The sale selection will include seasonal items from the pre-fall and fall collections. That means you can snag savings on lots of prints from the latest collections. This season the shoe collection was a snooze. It’s been quite some time since Prada has had a blockbuster collection but our love remains unconditional.

    Saint Laurent
If you’re looking to snag a nice saving on YSL we suggest you head there fast as the boutique’s sales people are currently calling dibs on the best items. We hear that the sale will officially begin on November 30. Finding a transparent sales person isn’t always easy but persistence will payoff if there’s an item that’s specifically interesting. Be on the lookout for a 30% discount on bags including patent and studded Sac De Jour bags, lipstick print bags and fringed styles. In the shoe section, select Tributes will be discounted 20% and other shoes will be 30% to 40% off.

    Valentino
The pre-sale at Valentino officially begins on Friday, November 20. Again, be sure to let a sales person know now if there’s something specific that catches your eye. The discount is 40%. The black and white combo Rockstuds are included in the markdown along with yellow, pink, wine, brown and animal prints.

5 Gifts To Bring Your Thanksgiving Host

One major reason to be thankful this Thanksgiving is not hosting the main event. That doesn’t mean, however, that you’re completely off the hook.

Finding the right way to thank your host –who has sweat over every detail from the Turkey roaster to the table napkins –isn’t always an easy proposition. The key is finding a gift that is both thoughtful and appropriately rewards your host for all her work.

Below are a few suggestions that are sure to put a smile on the face of your host and insure you get invited again next year.

    Flowers
Presenting your hostess with fresh flowers is one of the most popular ways to thank her for the effort. One mistake that many guests make is to buy flowers from a generic florist Locally, Ovando is the go-to florist of the style set. Her designs are both architecturally interesting and sexy. Depending on my mood, I will sometimes arrange the flowers myself and and present them in a beautiful vase. After all, what’s a Baccarat vase without flowers?

    Delicacies & Cookbook
Every neighborhood has their local delicacies. If you are traveling to your host, bring something yummy from home along with a cookbook. This way your ambitious hostess can attempt to reproduce the delicacy. Some of our local favorites include Payard pastries and cookbook, most anything from Dean & Deluca or Eli Zabar. Head this way for a beautiful box set from Vosage Chocolate, an assortment of pasta sauces or a box of fresh truffles and accessories.

    Wine
A bottle of wine is likely the most popular hostess gift. Wine is always a perfect gift because there is such a broad range of budgets available. Personally, I like to bring a bottle of chilled champagne because it’s festive and goes with almost all foods. There are also some great subscription packages. I personally love the idea of Tasting Room where you can provide your host with a box of mini-wines and he can pick his favorite and receive the full size. Wine memberships are another way to impress your host.

    Monogramed Home Items
It’s hard to turn up your nose at a gift with your name on it. To get extra personal it’s nice to monogram a gift item from cocktail napkins to bathrobes. J. Crew and Neiman Marcus have entire monogram shops, which includes a variety of merchandise. Henri Bendel, particularly, is able to monogram and emboss a variety of items from bags to toiletry items.

    Candles
A scented candle is both understated and memorable. Try a 3-wick candle, which will add a glorious glow to their living room and fill the house with a wonderful scent. Trying to score major points? I love most scents from Fornasetti, Diptyque and DL&co .

    Gucci Presale Begins

The Gucci pre-sale is now underway in boutiques. Bags, clothing and shoes are discounted 40% off. The pre-sale link will go live online on Friday.

Last season, Gucci did a style purge and discounted almost the entire collection 50% off. This time around we aren’t so lucky. Some key items included in the markdown are the Disco bag in orange, the Jackie Bucket bag in a variety of colors and the Interlocking Leather Shoulder bag in assorted colors including black. Take note, that a lot of the sale items have already been removed from the website in preparation for the sale.

The sale isn’t just occurring at Gucci stores but also includes Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales and Nordstrom. Take note, as with many private sales, stores and sales people tend to be cagey. It is part of the culture that we really dislike.

Those shopping in Europe can enjoy discounts in about two weeks. One point that you should remember is that all Gucci sale items are final and cannot be returned.

Inside: Proenza Schouler and Sergio Rossi

The Proenza Schouler and Sergio Rossi sample sales open to the public on Tuesday. Today we were granted early access to both sales and were eager to take advantage of the opportunity.

We started our day downtown at Century 21, which is hosting the Proenza sale. The most popular section, obviously, is the bags. The selection included a big assortment of  Proenza’s greatest hits: PS1, PS11, Lunch Bags, Bucket Bags, Buckle Bags, satchels among others. Prices range from $299 for mini-size bags to $1100 for a python PS11.

This Mini PS11 in assorted metallic colors is priced at $499. These medium PS1‘s in a variety of colors are also $499 and the smaller size is $450.  (You can see pictures and prices over here.)

There are also lots of small leather goods: wallets, pouches and iPad cases, among others. There is a limit of three bags and four small items but we saw lots of people hoarding bags and taking two trips to the cashier. We wouldn’t be surprised if the sale was wiped clean of bags by Tuesday afternoon.

The shoe section is upstairs but the assortment is small. We found ankle booties with a wood-esqu heel for $125, pumps with a round heel for $199 and slide sandals for $99. (Head this way to see pictures.)

There is a wide selection of clothing for men and women upstairs and downstairs. If you’re looking for the best deals, we suggest you head upstairs. There you will find racks that were separated by price. The most discounted was the $29 and $49 rack, where we found a aqua leather top for $49 and several sample size skirts for the same price. There are racks of plants on the $69 rack and some dresses and leather skirts on the $99 rack. Just be careful some times are samples and unfinished and other items are damaged. You can head this way to shop the pictures and see pricing.

Heading over the the Sergio Rossi sale later this afternoon we found a very calm shopping atmosphere. Most shoes are priced between $125 and $400. Fancier shoes will set you back $500 to $550. The selection is not very good in the smaller sizes but is ample for those size 37 and above. The sale includes a handful of bags but none were worth lusting for. Unfortunately, were not permitted to take any pictures and security was very tight.

All the shoes are sold in the original box with the dustbags. Most of the selection is in pristine condition. We are told that there will be restocking throughout the sale and we wouldn’t be surprised if there were price cuts. For this one, we would suggest waiting until Thursday morning before you pounce.

Yoox: Prada, Marni & Lanvin 50% Off

It’s going to be a week or so until our favorite Madison Avenue boutiques start their pre-sale. Until then, you can direct your attention towards Yoox, which is offering deep discounts on many designer merchandise. What’s even better, is that through the weekend you can save an extra 25% at checkout for a total savings of 60% and sometimes even more.

Among the Prada items we found this red and black sweater that was shown on the runway (winter ’14-’15) that comes to $330 from $722. These tall boots with a wedge heel are $567 from almost $1100 and a classic wool coat with red piping comes to $826 from almost $1600. Moving over to Marni there’s an orange-red coat for $512 from $1000 and a current season pull-over is $470 from $900.

Some other interesting finds is this Balmain dress (not H&M) that’s $755 from $1438, a knit Lanvin dress in emerald green for $350 from $930 and Alexander McQueen platform pumps with skulls on the front are $453 from $840.

We usually find Yoox overwhelming but these discounts are worth the investment of time. Take note, that inventory is running low for a lot of the best items. Other items are several seasons old. The sale ends November 16 but by then we should be able to start designer pre-saleing.

    Ralph Lauren Pre-Holiday Sale

Ralph Lauren started a pre-holiday sale promotion where you can save an extra 30% off already reduced merchandise. Right now you can find select merchandise reduced to over 60% off.

The sale started today and runs through Sunday, November 16. The sale inventory for woman is predominately from Polo Ralph Lauren and Lauren. For men, there is a nice amount of Black Label and RLX. The sale also includes a smattering of home goods, which range from a wool throw for $350 from $750 to towels that are discounted about 60%.

The sale includes lots of cold weather items. Take this RXL women’s puffer that comes to $165 from $500, a Navajo patchwork cardigan is $735 from $1500. There are also lots of Ralph Lauren classics, like this big pony polo for $28 from almost $100, a chunky cabled wool turtleneck is $70 from $165 and wonderfully distressed jeans are about $125 from almost $300.

Keep your eyes open if you’re looking to snag some deals on Ralph Lauren’s higher-end brands. By early December, the sale usually includes the luxury collections which you could find discounted up to 60% off.
