    The IT-it: Trump Trucker Hat

Lets put politics aside for a moment and take a closer look at the ironic trucker hat. In the early 2000’s, the trucker hat became a mainstream fashion trend. Ashton Kutcher in particular is credited in helping popularize the fashion during his Punk’d days on MTV.

The trucker hat became the gateway to hipster alternative fashion. Though out the past 15-years the trucker hat has maintained it’s place in ironic fashion and street style. It may also be the most iconic fashion statement of the 2016 presidential campaign.

Republican candidate Donald Trump’s ‘Make America Great Again’ trucker hat is quickly becoming New York’s must have fashion accessory. They sell out almost as soon as they come into the Trump Store– located in the lobby of Manhattan’s Trump Tower. The $20 hats are available in four different color combinations but red is, of course, the most popular.

When we visited the store early last week, the hats were all in stock but the tees were sold out. Surprisingly, there isn’t an abundance of Trump 4 Prez marketing at Trump Tower. The counter traditionally sells golf centric Trump merchandise and now has a small selection of Trump presidential merchandise.

Take note that all candidate merchandise is logged as a campaign contribution. Shoppers are required to register their name, email address, employer and occupation so the campaign can report the info to the Federal Election Commission.

We caught up with Rob Garson who recently purchased the said hat. Garson is the managing partner of GS2Law, an international intellectual property law firm, and says he initially started wearing the hat as performance art. Reactions have ranged from “raised eyebrows by some, knowing nods by others, and smiles from many. I also don’t think my doorman is speaking to me anymore,” Garson says.

Despite there risk of alienating his doorman, Garson says he will continue to wear his hat until Trump does something so despicable that he can’t. “It’s so exciting!”

Even so, it is the perfect day to go “sailing.” Shopping online is just too easy, especially when online discounts are better than much of what you’ll find in stores. Tibi Online Sample Sale

Tibi’s effortlessly cool essentials are available online at up to 80% off during the company’s sample sale. The online-only sale runs through the weekend and ends Monday.

Most of the merchandise seems to have come from this past season’s summer collection. We would suggest the sale would be more appropriately named a ‘clearance sale’ as there are no samples. Sale highlights include, a strapless cotton shirt dress that’s reduced to $155 from $625, a gorgeous crouched vest is $110 from $550 and a white ribbon midi-skirt is $165 from $550.

Take note, that all sales are final. So be sure that whatever you buy you will want to wear next summer.

    Scoop Sale EXTRA 70% Off

    Coming Soon: Hermes Sample Sale

This is turning out to be a big month for Hermes lovers. Later this week the Hermes-Apple Watch will be available at big Orange and the Fruit. Those who aren’t satisfied with glitzy technology on a strap can hold out for the French retailer’s sample sale that will take place later this month.

    Peepy and Mother Lee

Last year, the Hermes sale is better than the past several sales but brand veterans were still were not very impressed. Most everything was priced at 50% off retail. Shoppers can expect to find a nice assortment of scarves and enamel bracelets.

The last sale had no leather bags, wallets or small leather items. We also didn’t find any leather bracelets or belts. Ties were plentiful as were shoes and boots. The best items, were the Cape Cod watches, gloves and hats. The sale also included a bit of china and clothing.

One thing that was abundant were the limits. For obvious reasons, each shopper could only purchase three scarves, five bracelets and 10 ties. We heard that some sales people will hold scarves so that you can take another pass at the checkout line.

Saks Off Fifth Prices 70% Off

What’s better than a department store sale? A sale at the department store’s outlet. Right now, Saks Off Fifth is hosting a friends and family sale where discounts have dipped below 70% off.

The best part is some of the highly reduced merchandise is some super fashionable high-end designer merchandise. Granted, most of it was over priced to begin with but these discounts make haute fashion a lot more attainable. A Jason Wu jacket made of fox and mink is reduced to just $2000 from $15,000, an even more stunning summer 2015 leather fringe dress from Giambattista Valli is also $2000 from almost $12,300 and a Lanvin stunner with lace appliqué is $1800 from $7300.

Some more reasonably priced items include a J Brand mini skirt that’s $70 from $228, a Wildfox sweatshirt is $55 from $108 and a Yigal Azrouel cape blouse is $175 from almost $700.

There are also a lot of great options if you’re looking for cruise, which should be coming into stores any day now. That’s a good excuse — if you needed one.

Kent & Curwen Sample Sale 80% Off

Kent & Curwen is perhaps best known for recently signing a deal with David Beckham to revamp the company’a image. After all, the British heritage brand has not been very successful in crafting a strong identity despite many failed attempts.

As with most designer revamps– think Gucci– it’s out with the old. In sale terms we can define that as a liquidation sale, or um, a sample sale.

Right now, Kent & Curwen’s suiting and sportswear is reduced up to 80% off. Our spies scouted the sale and report the inventory is mainly from the brand’s fall 2014 and spring 2015 collections. Suits are priced at $395 from about $2000, shirts range from $50 to $70 and some coats are just $50 from almost $1000. Ties are $15 from $125 and then there is a deal that if you buy three, you get the fourth free.

We are also told that the pricing is flexible, which means that you might be able to get an even more favorable deal if you are buying copious amounts of merchandise. The sale is at the company’s Trump Tower showroom and runs through Friday. We would just suggest heading over quickly if you plan to look as good as a Beckham without spending a baller’s salary.

    Kent and Curwen
    Through Friday, October 9
    11am to 6pm
    725 Fifth Avenue/Trump Tower, 14th Floor

    Ferragamo Sample Sale

It’s been a long time since there has been a Ferragamo sample sale. If you remember correctly, the 2011 sale, at the company’s warehouse, ended in mayhem and needed to be cancelled. There hasn’t been a good company sale since.

It’s understandable that we were excited to find out that the legendary Italian company will be hosting a sale at C21 — Century 21’s new-ish sample sale space. Details about the sale are very hush-hush but we have an oath that the deals will be incredible.

Only time will tell if this sale lives up to past sale expectations. Those old warehouse sales were legendary for their amazing finds.
