    J. Crew Final Sale

Even when a store shifts its focus it’s sometimes hard to break old stereotypes. Take J. Crew as an example. The store in no way resembles the old catalogue house from decades ago. However, for some reason it’s hard not to classify the company with other mail order stores like, LL Bean and Eddie Bauer.

Our first introduction to J. Crew was the store on Madison– a smart corporate move since it’s one of the only retailers on the Avenue that consistently has a steady flow of customers. Our second orientation was though First Lady O, who we admire for not depending on the “status” quo to look great. After, we heard that a Crew Cuts was opening in Carnegie Hill and we were sold.

Following some very through investigating we found out that the Madison Avenue store does not participate in sales. One associate told us that the company, “rather ship the merchandise to another store than mark it down here.” So off to another store we go. Well, to the web, that is.

Today J. Crew online started what they call, “Final Sale.” It’s scary – no returns. no exchanges- but the discounts are significant. We found a crystal flower ring that was $50, marked down to $29.99. We really like a pair of Prada-like jeweled flat sandals that were $238 and are now reduced to $110.

Hmmmm…For $135 more we can just get the real Prada sandals. Well, it’s your call.

    Neiman Marcus Extra 25% Off

This past weekend all the major NY department stores (minus Bergdorf Goodman) took their second markdown. In doing so, their websites have been crashed all weekend. On Saturday night it was impossible to to browse the Saks sale section, which is now hosting a markdown up to 60% off.

Neiman Marcus dropped prices an additional 25% this weekand and customers are complaining that it can take more than 15 minutes to check out. One frustrated customer commented, “The web site is jammed! its taking forever to load!” Another commented, I “can’t even get on the site.”

The final discount at Neiman Marcus is up to 55% off and there is still a great selection. That is, if you can cue yourself into the site. If not, you can always take a ride to Short Hills. It’s not like you will be missing a beach day with this April-in-June weather.

    Barneys Extra 25% Off

This lack of Internet is a good reason to never go anywhere. Again, from my phone:

Barneys just added a second markdown of an additional 25% off. The discount was already 40% and the new discount brings the total savings to 55% off. Before you go running to Barneys, read below. The savings and selection at Saks is better.

    Saks Extra 33%

I’m without an Internet connection and posting from my phone. So I’m going to keep it short.

Starting today, Saks is taking an additional 33% off already reduced merchandise. Most items have already been reduced 30% to 40% off bringing to current savings to 50% to 60% off. There’s still a great selection but it’s going to start going fast. On the other hand we know that there are lower discounts to come.

    Michael Kors Sale Update

Michael Kors had a very interesting line for the summer. The collection beckons an era of when times were more simple. From polka dot bikinis to color blocked mod dresses Michael Kors wants to remind America that channeling the B-52s can make you feel better in almost any situation.

Speaking of feeling good, how about a good discount? Most pieces in the collection are about $2000 and are currently marked down 50%. We here that the company is starting to shift merchandise from the store at Americana Manhasset to Madison Avenue. We read this to mean one thing: a new markdown is coming soon. The discount should go to 70% and when it does the merchandise will go very, very quickly.
