Luxury retail stores are feeling the pressure to make room for the new cruise collections. In doing so, extra discounts promotions are being used to entice shoppers to 'buy more stuff.' Right now, Barneys is offering an extra 20% off already reduced coats, shoes and bags.
The shoe selection has a lot more options. Maison Margiela metal heel low boots are $471 from $1480 and Manolo BB pumps are about $220 from $700. The assortment in the store is even larger and the extra discount also applies to Chanel and Louboutin. There was even an ugly Chanel shoe siting where the final price was 80% off retail.
We don't know how long the markdown will last but we can't imagine it will be for very long. Barneys usually ships out its winter Merchandise before February.
Now that it's really cold we can't stop thinking about getting away to someplace warm. Okay, we admit, the trip is already booked and we are counting down the days. In less general terms that means we are stocking up on what to pack.
As is always, nothing from last Summer seems sufficient. For that reason, we have been stalking the sales racks for clothing to take on vacation. Even if it's from last season, we are happy if it's new.
We found the best selection at Intermix where the discount is topping 80% off.
The new year means many things to different people. To us, the new year is the start of Manolo season. Every year, the Manolo Blahnik boutique takes their first markdown following the big ball drop.
Currently, shoes and boots from the winter collection are now discounted to 33% off. This markdown should not cause too much excitement considering that department stores are running sales where Manolos are 60% off.
In less than three weeks you can expect the discount to drop to 50% off and by early February the discount climbs to 75% off. That's when we come running. Neiman Marcus is the latest department store to take their winter merchandise to the third markdown. The discount at Neiman Marcus is officially up to 70% off and that includes some great shoes styles too.
Even though this is the final markdown, that doesn't mean there won't be additional discount promotions. Neiman Marcus often surprises customers with an additional 25% off discount or buy-more-save-more incentives. No worries, we'll keep you posted.
It's a new year and, of course, there are new trends.
Off White, which was launched in 2013 quickly became a streetwear brand with a large cult following all over the world. The brand originally made it's name for it's spray painted menswear but it's the woman's accessories that are catching fire.
During Paris fashion week, Off-White's Virgil Abloh (also Kanye's creative director) presented a women's collection that was displayed on the ground like traditional counterfeit merchandise. The see-now, buy-now collection was a hit and the Binder Clip Bag ($950) stole the show. The bag is quite minimalistic but punctuated by a binder clip closure and accompanied by an extra guitar strap that looks like a police tape with the company logo.
The bags quickly sold out when they became available after the fashion presentation but stores have recently been restocked. All the European sites sold out immediately but it appears as if the American market is a little behind on this trend. Right now, the Binder Clip Bag is currently available at Barneys (white is sold out), Maxfield (LA) and Hirshleifers (LI, NY).
We suggest you jump on this newest must-have right now or you'll stalking this relatively affordable it-bag until the next restock. We have no idea when that will be.
We highly suggest that you immediately click over to Bergdorf Goodman where you can now save up to 75% off winter merchandise. As a matter of fact, the prices at our violet home-away-from-home are more discounted than, even, Neiman Marcus.
The discount on shoes and handbags are unchanged but hold on. There are usually limited time promotions where sale merchandise is discounted an extra 20%. Just be careful, merchandise tends to go very quickly during this markdown.

Moda Operandi Discounts 75%
Discounts have hit 75% off but inventory and sizing is running thin. The site is particularly well stocked with exquisite gowns and dresses. Check out this Delpozo gown that's priced at $2600 from $8500. This sunny yellow Rosie Assouline skirt is genius as you can remove tiers and make it the desired length-- from mini to ball. There are also lots of less expensive items like these Frame jeans that are $76 from $230, a Jonathan Simkhai
Bonded ">Jonathan Simkhai pencil skirt is $159 from $460 and crushed velvet booties from Carmelinas are $190 from $300.
The Nordstrom Half-Yearly sale is back. This is Nordstrom's biggest sale of the year. The discount is 50% to 60% off most all fall and winter merchandise. Take note, the sale only runs through January 2nd.
Some items may not be discounted as much as other department stores but some brands are reduced even more. Nordstrom is also notorious for price matching. If you see an item priced less at another store make sure to contact customer service and Nordstrom will match the price in most situations.
This season we found several items marked down further than in most other stores. A tweed Loewe bag is an unprecedented 60% off. (Not the hottest style but we haven't seen any on sale.) Dolce & Gabbana is discounted just 40% at most retailers but this super chic pant suit and this tulip a-line dress is 60% off or $900 from $2275.
The SPACE sale section (a collection of avant-garde designers) might even be better than Barneys. A Phelan pleated knit dress is $1000 from $2600 and this Stella McCartney embellished jacquard shift dress is $1400 from $3400. We wish she did more versions of these shift dresses because the fit is amazing and the styling is classic. We also absolutely love this Simone Rocha long coat that looks both warm and stylish and is reduced to $1100 from $2700. We are finding it hard to resist this black and pink faux fur coat from Shrimps that's reduced to $450 from $1120.
Most of the best bags and shoes seem to be already gone. There is only one size option for this pair of Proenza boots and these Marni pumps. That's what happens when great style shoes get discounted to 60% off.
We suggest you snag what you like now because Nordstrom's online discounts don't usually dip below 60%. If you're shopping in the stores-- that's another story....
